SRA Competency B
The course is intended for support staff and new paralegals or apprenticeships and will be divided into two days and 4 sections that will be delivered online using Zoom Conferencing. Using examples the course will explore issues in the conveyancing process that can lead to problems.
In connection with each day delegates will be provided with extensive notes and there will be opportunities for delegate questions. Each session will be recorded and delegates will have the opportunity to watch recordings for 14 days after the event if required. Upon completion of all four sessions delegates will be provided with a certificate of attendance and completion of the course.
DAY 1 - MONDAY 29th NOVEMBER 2021
Day 1 will be divided into 2 sections: The first section will consider the office context followed by a review of basic land and contract law. In the second section we will look at the process and procedure of conveying estates and interests in land using the Law Society’s Protocol.
Putting conveyancing in context within the office: to include considering some aspects of SRA requirements for anti-money laundering, prevention of mortgage fraud and cyber-crime, identifying for whom we can act and cannot act, client care obligations, duties of confidentiality and non-disclosure as well as identifying areas of conflicts of interests and the giving and receiving of undertakings.
An introduction to basic land law: a consideration of the acquisition and transfer of legal and equitable freehold and leasehold estates and interests, including mortgages, in registered and unregistered land, co-ownership and holding land on trust for oneself and/or others, easements, covenants and adverse possession.
