Affiliate Membership Form

Affiliate Member means practising barristers, senior academics and those who become Partners in or are employed at a senior level by a firm of Solicitors whose other Partners are Members of the Society. Individuals who are seeking qualification as a solicitor either through the Single Qualifying Examination or a Training Contract are also eligible for Affiliate Membership. 

I wish to become an Affiliate Member of the Devon and Somerset Law Society and agree, if elected, to abide by the terms of the Memorandum and Articles of Association and the rules and bye-laws of the Society for the time being (see Resource Area).

RESOLUTION IN RESPECT OF NON SOLICITOR AFFILIATES OF DASLS “Practising barristers, senior academics [those with both a first and second degree] and those who become partners in or are employed at a senior level by firms of solicitors whose (other) solicitor partner(s) are members of DASLS may apply for Affiliate membership of DASLS. Candidates for Affiliate membership must be proposed and nominated in writing on the form prescribed for the purpose by two DASLS members (to whom the candidate is personally known). The proposal will be considered by the Committee of the Society and if more than two Committee members present shall vote against the application of the proposed Affiliate, the Affiliate shall not be accepted. If accepted, the Affiliate shall be bound by the memorandum and articles and rules and bye-laws of the Society for the time being and by the terms of this Resolution but shall have no vote in the deliberations of the Society and shall not be eligible for office or full membership of the Committee. An Affiliate will be permitted to attend as an observer and speak (both at the discretion of the Chairman of the meeting) at any meeting of the Society, its Committee and Sub-Committees and the AGM save if any confidential or sensitive matter is to be discussed. Affiliates will pay such subscriptions to the Society as may from time to time be fixed by the Committee and will only be eligible to remain an Affiliate whilst an academic, barrister practising in DASLS area or a partner or senior employee of a firm practising within DASLS area.”
