Look up! Look to the cloud! by Sponsor Alchemy

Migrating to the cloud has real value for any business

looking to achieve more flexibility, agility alchemy-applecloudsfaceless5190 and improve cost efficiency. Cloud storage systems also have significant advantages over traditional IT infrastructure when it comes to the safety and security of business IT.

Here are just some of the reasons why your business is safer with the cloud.

Reason 1 - Future proofing your business’ scalability

Swift scalability is essential in today’s fast-changing markets. However, traditional IT systems tend to limit a business to the physical assets available on-site.

When those assets run out, the only option is to install more, which can be costly and time- consuming. By contrast, in the cloud unlimited storage space is available and more server resources can be called upon as and when required — and in a matter of minutes. Cloud servers can scale up or down in response to business change, providing genuine flexibility and a way of controlling the IT infrastructure in place to safely support growth.

Reason 2 - Less susceptible to data loss through disaster

Whether it’s a system failure or a cyber-attack, there are many ways in which a disaster could arise that affects access to mission-critical data. A traditional IT system places all the responsibility for disaster prevention, management and recovery on the in-house team and its limited resources. Often this means that businesses reliant on traditional IT are more susceptible to data loss during disaster situations.

The use of cloud storage for data means that everything is automatically being backed up, sometimes as regularly as at 15-minute intervals. As a result, the potential for data loss is small. Via the cloud, data backup and restore can be initiated from anywhere, even if the business premises have been entirely destroyed. With traditional, on-site systems, if the location is brought down by a disaster then so too is the IT.

Reason 3- Security through controlled access

There is a physical separation from data when cloud storage is used and employees, vendors and visitors must have specific permissions to access it. It’s just not possible for anyone to stumble upon the data and to use it in a negative way because it’s not on the premises.

Protecting data is all about reducing the opportunities for a breach and physically moving it to the cloud is a significant step. Cloud storage enables businesses to control access to data and to tightly monitor who is using that access. This not only provides increased security by minimising the amount of human risk involved with the most critical data, but also shows lines of accountability if a problem does occur.

Reason 4- No USBs, CDs, or External hard drives required

Data loss isn’t just the result of system breaches or attacks by malicious third-parties. Transporting data via media such as USB sticks or external hard drives can also present some serious risks to IT systems. In fact, according to a recent article in computer weekly, 66% of USB sticks are lost and around 60% of those lost contain commercial data.

These statistics show just how unsafe it is for businesses to rely on traditional IT and these physical methods of data storage. Migrating to the cloud means that USB sticks etc. are simply no longer necessary. Data is accessible via the cloud to any employee with the right permissions, no matter where they are, so it’s no longer necessary to carry around that data in such a vulnerable way.

The cloud comes in a range of different options, from the bespoke private cloud to the cost effective public cloud and alternative hybrid cloud infrastructure. Each offers a range of benefits that can be tailored to suit a business, and security to elevate it above what traditional IT systems can offer.

Alchemy Systems and the wider Alchemy Systems Group have our own data centres and vast experience in private, public and hybrid cloud solutions. Talk to us today to move your company upwards, into the cloud!
